Symphony League members and guests gathered in June at the Lodge in Montevalle, Scotts Valley for the League’s Annual meeting and Volunteer Recognition to celebrate the important work of the League and to present a check to the Santa Cruz Symphony supporting the wonderful concerts we enjoy each season. A symbolic poster-sized check is presented, anticipating the year’s total, but the final check included some last-minute income. The total was $109,400, the largest donation the League has ever made. The check was presented by Clyde Vaughn, outgoing President of the League Board, to Dorothy Wise, Executive Director of the Santa Cruz Symphony.
The League couldn’t have made such a significant gift to the Symphony Association without the hard work of many volunteers. Volunteers that were recognized and thanked included those who participated in the Auto d’Elegance in the fall, the 2017 Home Tour (best attended ever!), the Uptown Hoedown in the spring, as well as our previews before each concert and a number of 20/20 events. Those who provide refreshments for the orchestra for the Friday night rehearsals were also honored.
Another presentation was made at the Symphony Association’s annual meeting held at Silver Mountain Winery to Linda Burroughs, President of the Santa Cruz Symphony board. As the League continued to receive income, the final check was hand carried by Sheila Vaughn, League treasurer, to the Symphony Office and presented to Dorothy Wise on the last day of the League’s fiscal year.
Kudos to everyone who was a part of making the League’s 2017-2018 season a fabulous success!
